Roccaraso is a town of 1,672 inhabitants in the province of Aquila. It belongs to the Highland Community MontanaAlto Sangro and the Five Mile
Its facilities make it the largest of ski resorts Appennino.Roccaraso entire mountain is the heart of the largest ski area in the Mediterranean, the area Alto Sangro, including 160km of slopes and 36 lifts. Annually held numerous events including an international level. In March 2005 Roccaraso hosted the final men's and women's European Cup, and is a candidate to host a World Cup race. Monuments and places of interest The parish church of Santa Maria Assunta is located opposite the Rock of Roccaraso. Dates from before the sixteenth century. Later, at the beginning of the seventeenth century was altered. The interior has three naves with columns made of stone interspersed with arches separating the aisles. In 1588 that the church consisted of nine altars and in 1630 that had 15, but then, later, someone was demolished. To date, there remain 11. The sixteenth-century wooden pulpit is leaning against one of the columns of the nave. Is similar to that of collegiate Pescocostanzo. The wooden font was divided into 2 parts. The earthquakes of 1703 and 1706 and destroyed several times, until World War II destroyed it completely. In 1954 it was rebuilt entirely. Because the original church remains hidden from the Germans solamene the silver statue of St. Hippolytus, the patron saint of Roccaraso, Neapolitan goldsmith school, donated by Baron Donato Berardino Angeloni in 1688 the church. The theater was built on commission by Donato Berardino Angeloni old in 1698. According to some sources is one of the oldest of the genre. Gave a monumental entrance portal to open court. On the front, before the portal, there had a porch and a porch with round arch, cornice on which there was an engraving of a sentence ufficiosa.Vi were represented the following representations: "The fegliuolo 'mpertenente", "Punchinello did Prince", "one does so," "The rascal," "The four nations." The church of San Bernardino by an inscription on the portal is built in 1851. The street where is built according to the tradition of Roccaraso, San Bernardino paused during a mission of evangelization. The church was restored in 1715 and rebuilt in 1954. The San Rocco church was built in 1656 as a grace received by the end of the plague (San Rocco is the patron of the sick of the disease) in 1743, as an epigraph to the main door of the church, the inhabitants of Roccaraso renewed the vow at the same saint. The church is the only building of significance to be escaped the fury of the Nazi Germans during World War II. The facade is crowned hut completed by pilasters that frame the whole. Inside, a single nave and semicircular apse at the top, there is a decorative shell.
