Rocca di Mezzo
Rocca di Mezzo is a town of 1,544 inhabitants in the province of L'Aquila: Part of Mountain Community Sirentina.
The town is situated on the slopes of Monte Rotondo, and enjoys a central location nell'altopiano Velino Sirente. The plateau extends Sirente Velino Velino between the ridges to the west and north east Sirente, occupying an area exceeding 290 km ². The average altitude of the area is about 1270 meters, and has very little uneven, reflecting the presence in the Mesozoic era of ancient glaciers. From the geological point of view, the plateau is characterized by karst phenomena of great interest as sinkholes, swallow holes and caves. The sinkhole Terranera, known as the Pit Kettle, is currently the most important: its waters are lost, then resurface Caves Stiffe, in the municipality of San Demetrio ne 'Vestini. Ideally, it is divided into three parts: above the old town, with houses, barns and garages in stone, steep streets and the church of Our Lady of the Snow at the top, the large pedestrian square feet, with fountains and Morge City Hall, outside the settlements, including, Plans Pezza, the Cemetery, the 'Prata', the hills of Monte Rotondo.
